I SO WANT TO GO!
But didn't buy tickets, bah!
But you know, i've heard that my Auntie's uncle or someone had connections with Gwen Stefani (i read that her husband Rosedale's step mother is Malaysian, so no surprise there!), so they got GOOD TICKETS to the show! ARGH! JEALOUS XD!~ I shall bombard my cousin to tell me all about the concert then, muahahaha!~
Otherwise i'll threaten to expose his malu-stuffs on my Blog, mind, my Blog's nothing big. But i can always get Auntie's sister to promote my Blog to her school, which is also my cousin's school... muahahaha...
I'm so mean!~ Muahahahahahaha!
BTW, i'm sure everyone know of the protest by Islamic oppositions and National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students etc on Gwen Stefani's concert right (here's an article from TheStar)?
Anyways, kudos to Gwen for respecting our country's culture (read today's The Star if you haven't know about it), but i really can't stand this article by Daily Telegraph!
In that article, it places a picture of wearing an outfit (which i would actually call it very fashionable honestly - Harajuku style -! Its not even close to sexy, since she wore stockings instead of exposing her legs!), with the caption:
"Raunchy? ... Malaysian students think so. Gwen Stefani will perform in Malaysia on the next stop of her tour despite protests from an Islamic group objecting to her raunchy performances and outfits, show bosses claim."
So malu ok (= =").
Now everyone's going to think Malaysians are very "close-minded" and ulu-kampung or something!
Mind, i've heard some stories from some people that some foreigners ACTUALLY BELIEVE that Malaysians swing from tree to tree and wears NOTHING (only wearing clothes when we leave the country)!!
I've also heard this from my friend who had hosted a Japanese student:
My friend had worn shorts and sphagetti stripe when she went to pick the Japanese girl from the airport, and when she saw her (my friend), the Japanese girl got the shock of her life because SHE THOUGHT WE AREN'T ALLOWED TO WEAR SHORTS!!
In fact, the Japanese girl brought only LONG PANTS (long sleeves shirts too i think) with her, so i won't be surprised if she melted by the end of her stay in Malaysia (which she didn't lar, her host family brought her to buy some short pants and my friend gave her some shorts of hers)!
In fact, you know this news on protest on Gwen Stefani's concert is all over the internet?
If you google "Gwen Stefani Malaysia Concert", instead of getting the sponsor page, i got articles from newspapers ALL AROUND THE WORLD about this issue!
(In fact, i actually had to open Hotlink's page to find the webpage on the concert!)
...
Ok, i'm not sure if i would "land in trouble" if i write this, but i really want to write this out. Please bear in mind this is honestly JUST MY OPINION.
If i get into trouble AhMa, NaiMa, MAFIA FAMILY and the rest of the class please come to my aid and save me.
So anyways (i didn't bother checking out other articles, it makes me pening kepala already, so i'm only quoting from the Daily Telegraph article):
That article only talked about the Muslim students' union's protest to the concert. I had actually only read about PAS protest in the newspaper, not this union, but anyways, the article had stated that the student union's president had said that "Malaysian youth "would be exposed to moral decay if we continue to allow such concerts to be held in Malaysia"."
...
If we are not exposed, i think we kena mental and social decay more lar...
I personally felt that Malaysians should just stop being so "katak di bawah tempurung". Why can't foreign artist come to Malaysia to perform JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE RAUCHY?
I feel those who had protested to the concerts are just trying to seek attention. The reason why the performers would want to come to Malaysia is because MALAYSIAN FANS wants them to come! Do you think they would want to come if the fanbase here is 0%? A bit the waste money right?
Yes, Malaysia has a culture which we should respect. I do respect too (though yesterday i just went and and feed a piece of pork ham to my cousin in front of a Malay lady; i'm not sure if she knows what it is, but i think can guess lar since i did came out from the "non-halal department"... i think she didn't mind (smile mar) but i honestly feel its very disrespectful of me and i deeply regret it). Everywhere in the world has a local culture, so if we adhere to it, WHATS THE PROBLEM?
As long as the performers had agreed since beginning to follow through the strict guidelines, i don't think there's even a need for "protest" right?
As said earlier: seeking-attention.
If the performers had shown that they DO NOT want to follow the guidelines provided, then too bad, cannot perform in Malaysia lor. You don't respect our culture, so don't earn our money lar. The protest is fine lar!
A lot of performers who had performed in Malaysia had already follow through the guidelines (among those i remember, Mariah Carey - who couldn't wear the 7 cases of clothes she had brought along with her because they are sexy -, and Linkin Park - no taking off clothes, no swear word etc -). If they had already shown an example that they can follow the guidelines, why continue to negatively perceive other performers who had shown interest in performing in Malaysia?
If it was afraid that Malaysian youth would "morally decay", do you actually know that since "youth", being teens, are VERY rebellious?
In a way of saying, the more you don't want to give them, the more they'll rebel against it, and thus the worst it become.
I personally believe if you introduce it to youths and explain it properly to them, instead of "forbidding" them, it'll lessen their curiosity on the matter and they won't go on their own attempts to "explore it", which sometimes may get bad.
I remember my Psychology teacher Mr Graham had said that (i forgot the exact words he said, so i agak agak hentam nya) chances of youths in US getting drunk are higher than Europe, because in Europe, youths are allowed to take a glass of wine during meals as apposed to being forbidden (age-limit). So there's no need to curi-curi go buy booze and drink until kisiao right?
If you introduce it to them earlier, explain the good and bad, chances are things won't go awry.
My parents have allowed me to drink lil sips of alcohol since young (when they ordered wine during meals); when i was really young, my dad explained to me that i can only try now (taking lil sips from their glass), but i'll be allowed my own glass when i'm older, because my brain is still growing and alcohol will damage it or something if drunk at a young age.
Now that i'm all grown, although i don't like alcohol, at least i won't have the urge to go and curi-curi buy booze just to try them right? Since i was exposed since young!
Its just an example of the situation lar!
Ok, i think i side-tracked!
But anyways, a bit the paiseh lar the way i felt those articles are written; like saying Malaysians are very close-minded nya!
Globalization.
Malaysia is growing. We should upheld our own culture, but at the same time accept other cultures as well, isn't it? Keep an open-mind!
Oh well!~
ps: Which makes me think: even Jolin Tsai is allowed, so why isn't Gwen Stefani allowed, without creating such a big fuss?
I feel Jolin's exposes are almost like Gwen Stefani honestly!
Hmm...
